Sony extends Box.com storage offer for Xperia owners into 2013

Sony has announced that it has extended its partnership with Box until the end of 2013. This means that users of Sony Xperia smartphones and Sony tablets can now avail of the free 50GB cloud storage for life by merely signing up or accessing Box accounts from their devices before December 31, 2013.

Box is an online file sharing and cloud content management service that allows a user to share and access content from anywhere and at anytime. Sony states, “Whether it be images, videos, apps, documents (you name it), you can store, share and access files from any of your connected devices – computer, smartphone, tablet and internet enabled TV.”

Box.com has also put up a support page to answer some of the common questions that may be posed by some of the Xperia users.

Box states that new Box users will receive a free 50GB account when they download and log into Box for Android on any Sony Ericsson Xperia Android smartphone worldwide. Existing Box users will receive the upgrade when they log into Box for Android on their device.

If a user is brand new to Box, he will need to download the app from his Xperia Android device, open the app once the download is complete and sign up for a free Box account. Once the sign up is complete and a user logs into his account from the device, the upgrade should be complete and he will see a confirmation message.

If one already has a version of the Box app on his Android device, he just needs to sign into his account on the Xperia device and the upgrade should be complete. Box states that one should note that this promotion is only for free Box Personal accounts; if one is a Box Business, Enterprise or paid Personal customer, then they do not qualify for this promotion.

Once a user gets the 50GB Box account, he will never be downgraded; the space is his for the life of the account.

If a user already has a paid Box Personal account, then he can choose to downgrade the account in order to get the 50GB of storage. Box states that a user will lose some of the added features from the paid account, including a 1GB upload limit, folder downloads, password-protected links, version history, etc.

If one has accidentally signed up with a wrong email address – one that a user does not have access to – then he will have to sign up for a new account using the correct address. If a user has used an email address that he has access to, but would prefer a different address, he can make the switch in his account settings on the Box site.
