Sony begins rolling out Jelly Bean for Xperia S, SL

Looks like Sony is working hard on the updates front. The company has begun rolling out Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean for the Xperia S (LT26i), Xperia SL (LT26ii) and acro S (LT26w). The company tweeted via its official Twitter handle, Sony Xperia News, that the Jelly Bean update for the Xperia ion will also be coming soon.

What’s more, the company started pushing out a new firmware update for the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL earlier this week. The update brought a number of performance and camera improvements and slight changes to the user interface.

The Xperia S finally gets Jelly Bean

Going by posts on various forums, users in France and Croatia have begun receiving the update. We have no information when the update will be rolled out to users in India. The company also didn’t mention when the update for the Xperia ion could be expected.

But the tech-savvy among you won’t really have to wait for the update. A member of the XDA forums, DooMLoRD, has uploaded a pre-rooted version of the official Jelly Bean ROM (6.2.B.0.200) for the Xperia S. The ROM works with both unlocked and locked bootloaders, and can be installed on your phone easily using Flashtool. It is also compatible with the Xpeira SL. It’s likely the ROMs for the other phones will be cracked and uploaded soon too, so keep an eye on the XDA Developers forums.

Earlier this week, the company started updating the Xperia E dual (both C1604 and C1605) with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. There’s no word on how long the update will take to reach India.
