Sony approached Double Fine to develop games for PS4

It looks like Sony’s after more than just AAA developers for games for the PlayStation 4. According to an interview on the PlayStation Official Magazine UK, Sony had approached Double Fine boss Tim Schafer. He said that he “already got some guys playing with some of the new features to see what we can do with it.”

Schafer said that winning a developer over to develop for a system isn’t very difficult. “All we want is to be treated with just a little bit of reason,” Schafer said. “Because often you just get told the most unreasonable, crazy things … Just doing things like letting us patch our games when we want to, put our games on sale and release our games in territories that they should be released in — just doing a few things like that can make a developer very enamored of you”.

Back in March, Sony had announced that the free-to-play FPS Blacklight: Retribution will be coming to the PlayStation 4 as well. This shows that Sony wants more than just the Call of Duty, Battlefield and Uncharted games on its next-gen system. It wants more daring developers bring their games to the system.

Tim Schafer is a legendary game developer who was behind the writing for many classic games such as Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle and Psychonauts. The game he is currently working on is the Double Fine adventure, which was revealed back in March to be named Broken Age.

Broken Age was the first major game to be funded on Kickstarter. While there had been other smaller games funded through the crowdfunding website, Double Fine was the first to have a major personality, Tim Schafer, behind it. This helped the campaign for Double Fine’s own adventure game to reach (at the time) record-breaking targets.

Here is the official description of the game: “Broken Age is a point-and-click adventure telling the stories of a young boy and girl leading parallel lives. The girl has been chosen by her village to be sacrificed to a terrible monster–but she decides to fight back. Meanwhile, a boy on a spaceship is living a solitary life under the care of a motherly computer, but he wants to break free to lead adventures and do good in the world. Adventures ensue.”

Double Fine is known for its quirky games with fantastical settings and good writing. The company is most famous for two games: Psychonauts and Brutal Legend. Both games are known for their quirky humour and strange settings.

Ever heard of one of those people who just never seem to shut up about something? Shunal is like the nerd equivalent of that guy. Believe us when we say that he can go on talking about games and smartphones for hours on end. We do manage to find some insight in his insane ramblings though, and through his moronic facade, he does seem to know more than he lets on. Sadly enough, it always ends up being about gaming with him. Or stupid, stupid puns. see more
