Sony announces budget Xperia E5 smartphone

After announcing the Sony Xperia X and XA smartphones in India, Sony has now announced the previously rumoured budget-mid-range smartphone called the Xperia E5.


After announcing the Sony Xperia X and XA smartphones in India, Sony has now announced the previously rumoured budget to mid-range smartphone called the Xperia E5. The Sony Xperia E5 is priced at 199 Euros (approximately Rs 15,000) and will initially start selling in select European, Latin American, African and Middle Eastern regions as well.

The Xperia E5 comes in two colours, black and white and delivers a 5-inch HD (1280x720 pixels) display. The device packs in a budget MediaTek 6735 quad-core chipset with 1.5GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The internal storage is expandable up to 200GB via a microSD card.

Coming to the cameras the smartphone features a 13MP camera on the back and features an Exmor RS sensor along with Sony's Hybrid autofocus system. The front-facing unit comes with an 8MP sensor that features an 88 degree wide angle lens.

As for communications, you get 4G LTE bands with a dual SIM set up. The device also includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and is powered by a 2,500mAh battery. The handset runs Android Marshmallow and overall, sits slightly below the recently launched Xperia XA.

The Xperia XA is priced higher and comes with slightly better specifications. It features an HD resolution (720p) 5-inch IPS LCD display but also comes with the same 2.5D curved glass and an edge-to-edge finish, which makes the smartphone feel much smaller than a 5-inch smartphone. The device comes with a 13MP main camera and an 8MP front camera and is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 64-bit octa-core chipset with 2GB RAM and 16GB expandable storage and a 2,300mAh battery.
