Snapdeal launches an Android app

Snapdeal.com can now be accessed on smart devices that run Google’s mobile OS. The app enables access on the go and offers users thousands of brands across various categories. Earlier this year, the e-commerce company launched their WAP platform and the Android app further extends their presence on mobile devices. The application is compatible with Android 2.2 and upwards. The app also offers a range of products and services to browse through based on the user’s location. Furthermore, there are integrated payment options with an integrated “One time password” function. As with Snapdeal’s desktop services, Cash on delivery exists as a payment option, even through the Android app.

Rishabh Arora, Head – Mobile Initiatives at Snapdeal.com says, “There are millions of Android users in India and this app will be a great way of reaching out to these users and providing a seamless shopping experience on their smart phones. We will continue to optimize the features and work towards building one of the best Android apps in this domain. We are in the process of rolling out apps for other platforms like iOS & Blackberry too.” It is interesting that Snapdeal chose to launch for Android before they launch for iOS. Perhaps, the largest percentage of Snapdeal mobile customers were Android users.

The Snapdeal app will let you see products in categories, including Restaurants, Health & Beauty, Entertainment or Branded products like Mobile phones, Electronics, Perfumes, Watches, Bags and Sunglasses. The app is location enabled, so you can see deals around you based on your location. You can also see what’s going on in your locality and see the distance of the deals from your current position. Finally, if you see a product or a deal you like, you can share its information via the social networks, like Facebook and Twitter. The Snapdeal app for Android is available for free from Google Play .

Paddy does not, we repeat, definitely does NOT belong in the category of Mac-head (yeh right!). She does get excited by her iPhone and her iMac and her iPod Nano and her Macbook and Bali's iPad and her future iHouse (patent pending). Ok, so maybe her head is a little bit forbidden fruit shaped. She likes shooting video (iPhone 4 camera zindabad!) and editing montages (Final Cut Pro zindabad!), whether the scene calls for it or no. In her spare time, she's either kicking it on stage with KB the keyboard or kicking butt at Taekwondo.
