Snapdeal Diwali sale in numbers: 6 million orders shipped so far, 6 mobile phones sold every second

Unlike Flipkart or Amazon, Snapdeal decided on weekly sales until Diwali along with a 5-day sale that took place last week. The company is planning to take on its rivals with a different approach and also working at improvements in terms of timely delivery of products. It has now revealed a few numbers from this Diwali sale, so far. Rahul Taneja, Vice President, Category Management, Snapdeal said, “The Monday is witnessing a tremendous response from all across the country. With more than 1 million unique products under the home category, we are offering something for everyone’s taste and budget. The growth in sales volumes is consistent with an overall 10X increase in volumes. We will continue to deliver the best after sales experience to our customers.” To begin with, six million orders have been shipped, so far. The company claims an overall 700 percent growth in sales with six mobile phones being sold every one second and one tablet flying off the shelves every five seconds. The company also sold a laptop every seven seconds. In the camera segment, the company reveals a growth by 22 percent for cameras and accessories. The Diwali sale time also saw a rise in app downloads with a sky rocketing number of five million downloads. Snapdeal further claims that 98.6 percent times the delivery of products was on time and its website, WAP and app showed almost 100 percent uptime, precisely 99.998 percent. On the first day of sale itself, the company is said to have sold 500 crore worth of mobile phones. Almost two-third of these orders was from Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. Talking about cities bringing the most profit for Snapdeal, the company saw a surge in order volumes from Bengaluru and Delhi, followed by Hyderabad and Chennai. In consumer electronic gadgets, Snapdeal lists smartphones, cameras, laptops and power banks as its top selling products. Selfie sticks too have been very popular this festive season, says Snapdeal.
