Snapchat now hits 10 billion daily video views, up from 8 billion in February

One of the fastest growing social platforms, Snapchat, now has users watching 10 billion videos per day, up from 8 billion in February this year. In conversation with Bloomberg, people familiar with the matter stated, “More than a third of Snapchat’s daily users create ‘stories,’ broadcasting photos and videos from their lives that last 24 hours.” The report adds that Snapchat is sharing the new stories statistic with investors to help explain that its app is focused on serving people who create and broadcast content, not just consume it. Recently, the company also dressed up its messaging with an upgraded video chat and animations, part of the social network’s efforts to be the preferred service for young users. First gaining notoriety for its disappearing messages, Snapchat has been growing rapidly to a base of some 100 million, with particular appeal to young users, as it expands its partnerships with various media organizations. Social media giant Facebook’s obsession with owning a Snapchat-like app hasn’t stopped either. After a failed attempt at acquiring Snapchat and a failed attempt at building Snapchat-like Slingshot , it looks like the company is ready to give it a shot for the third time. The app, being developed by Facebook’s “friend-sharing” team in London, is in its early stages and may never come to fruition, according to the report. The company is also planning a feature that allows a user to record video through the app to begin live streaming.
