In a few weeks, Snapchat will introduce an Explore option on Snap Map where users can keep a track of events, festivals, news updates with the help of their friend's live location.
According to Snapchat, to use this feature, the user has to turn on their location on Snapchat. Then they have to pinch on the camera home screen to zoom inside the Map. The Explore option automatically updates all the live events around your surrounding location.
This option is available only if your friends have given the permission to share their location, but if you and your friends choose “Ghost mode” then no one can really see each other’s live location.
Initially, the option was available only for those who wanted to keep themselves updated with their friends or breaking news. But this new feature will not only help people find out where their friends are but also prompt you if your friends are near a landmark site or are travelling somewhere. So say if a friend of yours is visiting a well-known festival around you, you will know that through Snap Maps.
According to The Verge, if a user has allowed Snap to share the location, it does not mean other followers can track where their friends are. Only when your friends are using Snapchat at a particular location, then the follower’s location gets updated.
Explore in Snap Maps does indeed seem to be a fun tool which can be used by event companies to promote their events, therefore, giving choices to many within the city to explore.
