Smart TVs - What Are Your Options?

I recently wrote about Smart TVs and their advantages. There are actually quite a few available right now, and although all of them don’t have the same features, they are all unique. There are some massive, super expensive ones that have all the features you could possibly want and some which are smaller and have less features, but may just be what you are looking with respect to the price. So here’s a look at some of the good stuff available today.

Sony:
Sony actually has a lot of options when it comes to buying a smart TV. At the top of the line lies the LX900 Series, which has some great features like 3D playback, BRAVIA Internet Video and BRAVIA Internet Widgets among others. It is available in two sizes – 52-inches and 60-inches. The price for these is Rs. 3,99,000 and Rs. 2,59,000 respectively. The there’s the EX720 Series, which is available in a wider variety of sizes from 55-inches to 32-inches and allows you to use Skype apart from regular internet video and widgets. Of course, if you don’t want the 3D feature, you could always go in for the EX710 series instead, which is also available in a wider variety of sizes. You can buy anything from a 55-inch TV that costs Rs. 1,59,000 to a 32-inch one which will set you back by Rs. 52,900.

The LG Infinia LX9500

LG:
The Infinia 55X9500 is a magnificent TV which I have tested and loved. We had it with us for a while, and it has set quite an example for the rest of the TVs to follow. It has LG’s proprietary Netcast function which allows you to watch videos on Youtube, access plenty of widgets and more. it also supports 3D and comes in two sizes – 55-inch and 47-inch. They cost Rs. 2,80,000 and Rs. 2,00,000 respectively.

Samsung:
Samsung’s top of the line model is the LED Series 9 and has Internet@TV which is exclusive to Samsung. It allows you to access a lot of what is available online including social networking sites, video chatting and more. The Series9  is available in one size, 55-inch and costs Rs. 4,44,000. If you want something smaller and cheaper, a good option would be to go in for the Series 6 LED TV. This series of televisions are available from 55-inch to 32-inch sizes and cost between Rs. 2,00,000 to Rs. 61,000. These TVs also come with Internet@TV and support Full HD playback. There are also some in-between models like the 8 and 7 Series, which have similar functions, with added functionality.

Philips:
Philips’ flagship model is the super-wide Cinema 21:9, which I can safely say is a good TV, as I’ve had the pleasure of testing it. This TV reproduces audio and video beautifully and has great 3D depth as well. It also has Net TV, which is Philips’ way of keeping up with the smart TV revolution. Net TV allows you to check out your favourite YouTube video, check traffic information and access a number of widgets. This TV costs Rs. 4,50,000, and is only available in one size, 58-inch.

Panasonic:
It seems like Panasonic is determined to set itself apart from the others, as a lot of their smart/3D TVs are Plasma TVs. Panasonic, like every other manufacturer, has its own brand of smart TV called Viera. The Viera GT Series Plasma 3D TV is at the top of the class. The Viera GT Series is available in two sizes - 65-inch, as well as a 50-inch size and they cost Rs. 3,04,000 and Rs. 1,49,200. Of course, there are also lesser models available, such as the V Series and the GT Series, which are also both Plasma 3D TVs.

So there you have it. These TVs are some of the most sought after ones when it comes to smart TVs. However, if you have a model you like or want to trash, do let us know.
