Slack just added voice calling features for the Windows and Mac desktop apps, Chrome, as well as the Android and iOS apps. Users just have to login to Slack, a button for making voice calls is available right next to the channel details and channel settings icons. On mobile, the calling option is available in the Slack channel or the direct message drop down drawer for individuals. https://twitter.com/SlackHQ/status/740295835611598848 The calling feature is available for channels as well as one on one communication. This feature adds way for interpersonal communication on the application, which was text and multimedia snippet-based so far. When someone initiates a call in a channel, an alert invites everyone in the channel to join in the voice call. There is an in-call emoji feature, which overlays an emoji on top of the user’s profile picture. The emoji is overlaid only for a short duration, and is accompanied by a sound effect. This allows users to express their emotions in a call, without interrupting the speaker. The one to one calls is available to anyone using the service, for free. The channel calls option is only available for paid teams on slack. The feature is being rolled out for everyone after months of beta testing.
