Skype’s been on a roll lately, with launching an app for the iPad, adding video calling to more Android based phones, and now they’ve added HD video support to their Mac desktop counterparts.

Skype’s been on a roll lately, with  launching an app for the iPad , adding  video calling to more Android based phones , and now adding HD video support to their Mac desktop counterparts. It’s version 5.3 and it matches the Skype for PC ability for HD video. This version also adds official support for Mac OS X Lion. If you don’t have Lion, this version is supported from Mac OS X Leopard upwards.

To use HD video on Skype for Mac, users will need the FaceTime camera built into newer iMac and Macbook Pro computers or will need to use an external HD camera. Skype recommends that users have an upload/download speed of 1.5 Mbps in order to use HD video calling.

Paddy does not, we repeat, definitely does NOT belong in the category of Mac-head (yeh right!).
