Speaking about the downtime, Skype’s Peter Parkes said that a corruption occurred in a small percentage of users’ systems that resulted in part of their community not being able to sign in to Skype.  They have issued some instructions that can help users to get back online. Skype has also cautioned that these instructions are fairly technical, and that they have been working hard to produce a version of Skype for Windows which fixes this problem automatically.

Skype posted a fix for those facing a problem and said that the issue would be fixed soon. True to their word, the service was back online with an updated version of the software for Windows. It is said that the problem wasn’t just Windows related but Mac as well. The update for Mac will be available tomorrow. While desktop users have been affected, the Skype versions on Android or iPhones remain unaffected.
