Microsoft’s latest SkyDrive update claims to have made it easier for users to view all their photos in SkyDrive, across their albums and folders, in timeline view. In an official blog post, Microsoft notes that it has found photos to be the most common file type in SkyDrive – number-wise and also in the total storage space it occupies.

The timeline view allows users to scroll down to navigate through the photos. The images themselves have been divided into groups based on event and time. “Take 20 pictures at a birthday party with your phone, and then a photo of your parking spot at the airport a few hours later? Now they’ll appear as two different groups in the timeline,” the post adds. This new way of viewing images is especially convenient when users are looking for particular image(s) and can only access a web browser. Those looking for images taken in a specific month will have to click the month name. Users can also view their images in the filmstrip view and then watch them as a slide show.
Microsoft has also claimed to have improved upload times via the SkyDrive Desktop app. To do this, there are changes made to both the app and the server code. The app has achieved a 2-3x improvement in upload times for the photos.

In addition to that, full resolution uploads of photos and videos has been enabled in all markets where Windows Phone 8 is available. What this means is everyone with a Windows Phone 8 can have a complete backup of all the photos in their SkyDrive camera roll.
Thumbnail view has also been updated; new thumbnails have been introduced to PowerPoint and Word files.
