Microsoft is making some changes to its cloud storage service and is renaming SkyDrive to OneDrive. Nothing else changes in Microsoft’s cloud service except the name, the company has assured. In a blog post announcing the new name, Ryan Gavin for Microsoft announced that the name change was about to come into effect soon. The familiar dark blue clouds, denoting SkyDrive’s logo will still remain around as evidently Microsoft has tried to change as little as possible with this move. The company has even launched a new website called OneDrive.com where existing and new users can learn more about the service. Microsoft’s cloud service will continue to operate the same way it did for current users, the company has assured. User content will now be available on OneDrive and OneDrive for Business respectively as the company rolls out the new name across the portfolio. To mark the occasion, Microsoft has also released a rather longish, 55 second video, pegging OneDrive to be users’ one-stop shop for all their storage needs. The company has admitted that it was not easy for it to change the name of a product like SkyDrive. The move comes months after Microsoft agreed to change its cloud service’s name after **losing a ruling in the UK** . The court case went in favour of British Sky Broadcasting Group (BSkyB). The High Court judge ruled that Microsoft’s use of SkyDrive was an infringement on BSkyB’s rights in the “Sky” mark. After a bit of back and forth for over a month, Microsoft in late July agreed to change the name of SkyDrive the world over and is finally making the required changes.
