Voice assistant Siri has been a great boon for iOS users ever since it was launched with iOS 5 back in 2011. However, Siri hasn’t been the easiest to deal with when it came to pronouncing names. With iOS 7, this is all set to change as the iOS voice assistant now seems keen on learning how to pronounce names.

A report by 9to5Mac reveals that Siri in iOS 7 is asking users to help it with pronouncing names now. If Siri finds it difficult to pronounce names the first time round, it will ask you for assistance.

“Say my name, Siri!”

If you think Siri is pronouncing a name wrong, all you need to do is tell it “That’s not how you pronounce [the name]” and it will go through a learning process where it will try and get a name right. Siri will request you to pronounce the name for it and will give you a couple of options of how it thinks you said it. You can choose the option you think is closest to the name and Siri will continue to use it thereafter.

Siri has received a few new tweaks with the announcement of iOS 7 at the WWDC earlier this month. The voice assistant will now feature gender options you can choose between to be the voice of your iOS device. You can choose between a male Siri or a female one, an option that was previously available in other languages but has only just made its way to Siri in English.

While the pronunciation aid was found in iOS 7 beta 1, it is currently unclear whether the newly-released beta 2 has it or not. It will be a great aid to users from different cultural backgrounds to have Siri pronounce names a little more correctly.
