Secret, the anonymous sharing app, has finally arrived on Android after winning hordes of fans and users on iOS. The app, which started as a beta are soon earned cult status among the Silicon Valley set, brings some exclusive features for the Android launch, which not even the iOS app can boast of. In that sense, Secret is breaking away from the group of developers who prefer an iOS-first strategy.   So what is Secret? Secret lets you post messages on a global forum anonymously for anyone in the world to see, but it won’t reveal your identity no matter what. Yes, that’s right with this launch is also a global roll out for Secret, now available world wide. You can share these messages for others to see, like it, and comment back, all the while never knowing who it is that has posted the message. When your friends like your post or Secret, it spreads to their friends and so on. It has become the new Postsecret for the smartphone age.   When you first sign up for Secret, it asks for your email address and phone number (which it uses to add contacts to your list), but this is where the app’s Android launch has come slightly undone. You see on Android, the exclusive launch feature means your feed will be split into Friends and Explore. The former shows you only the messages posted by someone in your contact list, without displaying their name.   For many users, including us, the SMS verification did not work, which meant we couldn’t add friends. Despite sending a request about five times, we are still awaiting an SMS from the app to verify our number. This bug is sporadic and probably has to do with wrong configurations for global carriers. It’s expected to be fixed soon. But let’s face it: the whole point of Secret for many would be to guess which friend has posted a particular message. So right off the bat, Secret may have lost a few users.   If you cannot access your local or the Friends feed like us, you have no option but to enter the Explore tab, which shows you Secret posts from around the world. These range from confessions, to office gossip, to more important rumours. For example, Secret is believed to be the place where news of the Nike FuelBand layoffs broke. Since there’s no way one can be identified, people can let loose with their thoughts.
