The beta version of Apple’s Safari 3 browser for Windows that was released only two weeks ago, has received its second update to improve stability and security. Safari 3.0.2 for Windows rectifies security holes in the previous version, improves text display, and lessens launch times.
Another fix in the update takes care of a security vulnerability by which a hacker could disguise the browser’s address bar, allowing users to be tricked into thinking they were at a valid site instead of a fraudulent one, and thus fool them into revealing confidential information.
An update for the Mac version of Safari improves support for Mail, iChat, and Dashboard, and fixes problems with parental controls and Google Reader.
Apple also released Security Update 2007-06 for Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) and 10.4 (Tiger) to fix problems such as a memory corruption vulnerability that could let an attacker take control of a Mac. The Security Update 2007-06 fixes holes in WebKit and WebCore which are also fixed by Safari 3.0.2. So, the OS update is not needed for Mac users that have already downloaded Safari 3.0.2.
