There’s some good news for those hankering after purchasing the second generation Nexus 7 tablets in the country. According to latest reports, Google is looking to launch its latest tablet in Indian markets in November, three months after its global launch.
According to a report by TOI Tech, it looks like Google is going to launch the tablet all by itself rather than relying on the manufacturer Asus. The Internet giant even seems to be testing Indian apps and customised content with an aim of giving buyers better value for their money.
Google India’s page for the all-new Nexus 7 has been sporting a “coming soon” tag ever since the tablet was launched in the US. While the page does mention that the tablet will be available for purchase on the Google Play store, it also mentions that it will be available at retailers. The TOI report says that the tablet could initially be sold by AndroidLand stores in Noida and Bangalore. The stores are run jointly by Google and Spice.
While there are no details about what price point the new Nexus 7 will be at, the first-generation Nexus 7 is currently retailing at Rs 15,999 for the 16GB version and Rs 18,999 for the 32GB version on the Google Play Store. However, the tablets are selling for as low as Rs 9,999 for the 16GB version and Rs 15,999 for the 32GB version at some e-retailers.
The second-generation Nexus 7 tablet was launched back in July at the Breakfast with Sundar event. It is about 2mm thinner and 50g lighter than its older counterpart. It has a 1920 x 1200 resolution, with a pixel density 323 ppi and 7-point touch IPS panel. The Nexus 7 also has new internals, with the tablet being powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC, which has four Krait cores clocked at 1.5GHz along with Adreno 320 GPU and a healthy 2GB of RAM. In a significant bump from the previous version, the newer Nexus 7 will have dual stereo speakers with 5.1 audio.
Nexus 7 has a modest 5MP rear camera and a 1.2MP front-facing one. The tablet will also sport Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and dual-band Wi-Fi capabilities. The tablet has a 3950 mAh battery that will last you for a good nine hours of active use and can be charged wirelessly.
