Seagate Launches New Enterprise Range

Seagate Technology, in a move aimed at the enterprise and server market, today, launched its Cheetah 15K.5 hard drive. It is the latest generation of Seagate’s flagship enterprise product line. The Cheetah 15K series is renowned for its stability and ruggedness. The new range is based on perpendicular recording technology that allow for up to 300 gigabytes of capacity. This results in faster access speeds and more than twice the available capacity in this class of hard drives. This therefore makes Cheetah 15K.5 series TCO far more attractive than previous generations. Hard drives at the 15K RPM range are mostly used in high-end servers. The drives will be available in a choice of 3Gg /sec Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), Ultra320 SCSI, and 4 Gb/sec Fibre Channel interfaces with capacities of 73, 147, and 300 GB.
