While we did expect to see a few more Android smartphones coming in at lower price tags, we didn’t really expect to see the Walkman W8 on its way in and that too at such a low price. Sony Ericsson’s first Walkman phone to boast of an Android OS was already spoken of in the hot summer of April .

Entry-level entertainment…
While it does run on Android, it’s the version that’s quite of a disappointment. Android 2.1 aka Éclair is a little too old for a smartphone nowadays and Sony Ericsson should’ve probably given it FroYo at least. We definitely know that the W8 is just a rebranded Xperia X8 but maybe a slightly improved Android OS would have increased the value of the device by quite a bit. One thing’s for sure, all Walkman enthusiasts will be itching to know about the W8.
Sporting a 600 MHz processor and with SE’s TimeScape UI running on top, the W8 has the following specifications:
- a 3-inch capacitive touchscreen sporting a 320 x 480 pixel resolution
- 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi
- GPS with A-GPS support for Google Maps and trial version of Wisepilot and geo-tagging
- Bluetooth with A2DP and AVRCP, USB 2.0
- 3.2 megapixel camera
- FM radio with RDS
- 3.5mm handsfree socket
- microSD card Support
- Walkman player with Infinite function
- TrackID and Twitter sharing for the same
Now at a price of Rs. 10,899 available through Letsbuy.com and Rs. 10,950 via Flipkart.com , the W8 seems to be priced quite attractively. All we’re waitng for is an official announcement of the W8.
