The whole Intel Sandy Bridge fiasco with the SATA issues with the Cougar Point chipsets hasn’t only hit Intel and its motherboard vendors. Manufacturers of laptops including Apple were hit as well. MacBook Air’s weakness lies in its outdated processor

The new Macbook Air, which was updated in October last year, is still powered by an outdated Core 2 Duo processor and is desperately in need of an overhaul in the performance department. The MacBook Airs have always sacrificed performance for their ultra-sleek designs and style. Apple plans to plant a faster and more power efficient Sandy Bridge processor in it during the next product refresh sometime between April and June this year. A MacBook Pro update is also expected sometime since it’s been close to a year since the last refresh. Other laptop manufacturers also fell prey to the shortage of chipsets and have had to push back plans for newer product models as well.
