With smartphones nowadays coming with hardware to support 128GB microSD cards, we will start seeing more and more such memory cards in the market. First up is SanDisk, which has launched its new 128GB microSD card, SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I, in India for Rs 9,999. That’s almost as much as a smartphone itself, but the **Ultra microSDXC UHS-I memory card** , is the world’s largest capacity microSD card. It was unveiled during the Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona, this February. The 128GB cards are double the largest internal storage capacity found in phones these days, such as in the iPhone 5s. The large 128GB storage capacity is supported by phones such as the **HTC One M8** and the **Samsung Galaxy S5** . The Ultra microSDXC card is said to deliver twice the speed of ordinary microSD cards. It’s also important to enable quick capture of high resolution videos, especially as full-HD video recording is becoming a norm in many phones. One 128GB SD card can store up to 16 hours of Full HD video, 7,500 songs, 3,200 photos and more than 125 apps, according to the company. To produce this 128GB microSD card, SanDisk developed a proprietary technique to stack 16 memory dies vertically; each is shaved to be thinner than a strand of hair, before being stacked. “The new SanDisk Ultra microSDXC card again demonstrates how SanDisk continues to expand the possibilities of storage so that consumers can benefit from our latest technology advancements,” Rajesh Gupta, country manager India, SanDisk Corporation, said. Users can use the cards in conjunction with the SanDisk Memory Zone app that lets you manage files from their phone’s memory in one convenient place. As a part of the SanDisk Memory Zone app, SanDisk is releasing OptiMem, a new feature that allows Android users to enhance their phone’s internal memory by automatically transferring some of their old photos and videos to their microSD card. OptiMem will continuously monitor the user’s mobile device memory levels, and inform them whenever the internal memory falls below a pre-defined threshold.
