Samsung is all set to launch its version of the UMPC on May 1 in San Francisco. The UMPC is of course the device that made a lot of waves in CeBIT in March. It is based on the Microsoft Origami concept.
Samsung’s UMPC, known as Q1, will retail in South Korea for a rather steep $1264. This makes it a lot more expensive than Microsoft’s indicated price range of $500 to $1000. Prices for the United States and Europe were not announced, nor were hardware specifications of the device. Considering the cost, the device will find few takers as at a price of $1264, one can get a fully loaded notebook, which is far more functional than the UMPC.
