While we have seen plenty of rumours about Samsung’s upcoming Note series smartphones, we also know that the Korean electronics giant is planning to skip on the number ‘6’ and call its next Galaxy smartphone, the Note 7. Rumours aside, there has been one interesting leak lately, which finally brings to light the official launch date of the next Galaxy smartphone and the same is set for 2 August, 2016 at the Alice Tully Hall in New York. Samsung-Galaxy Note 7 Edge Unpacked August As reported by Sammobile, one can easily tell that the next smartphone will have the number ‘7’ as its model name. Additionally, the photograph also reveals the presence of the “edge” model with the following line, “The next edge is just around the corner.” The upcoming premium Galaxy smartphones from Samsung is expected to be christened as the Galaxy Note 7 and the Note 7 edge. But for now it isn’t clear as to whether Samsung will announce two models or simply go ahead with one edge variant that we saw in a recent leak. As for the specifications of the upcoming device, it has been rumoured to be the first Samsung smartphone to feature an Iris scanner. The information about the same had leaked out recently, where the technology was referred to as Samsung Eyeprint. The rest of the specifications include a 5.8-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 823 or an equivalent Exynos chipset, water-resistant IP68-certified body and a USB Type-C port. Indeed, this could be used as a second layer of security as fingerprint readers are now natively supported by Android devices. With the growing adoption of fingerprint scanners, Samsung could be looking at offering something new in the form of an Iris scanner that so far has been offered by a very limited number of manufacturers like Fujitsu and TCL .
