Samsung sticks to its promise; gives out 12,500 Galaxy S7 edge smartphones to Olympians

Now that Olympics are nearing it now appears that Samsung has stuck to its promise.

Remember the all-black Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Edition smartphone that Samsung recently announced? Well, back then Samsung also made this promise that it would gift all the sportsmen participating it in the Olympics the same smartphone as well. Now that Olympics are nearing it now appears that Samsung has stuck to its promise.

Samsung has put out a blog post on its official blog stating that it has just handed out all of them to the 12,500 participants. And all of those lucky men and women seem pretty happy indeed. Samsung's intent with the move was to help the participants "communicate with friends and family around the world more conveniently." While seriousness and tension fills the air in Rio with the games around the corner, the move certainly bought a smile on everyone's faces.

For now the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Edition is only being sold in select regions. While it certainly looks attractive with the black finish and the colours of the Olympic rings used as accents, it still is the same Galaxy S7 edge inside with the same class-beating camera performance.

The Korean Herald reports that Samsung has put these up for sale in South Korea for a price tag of 1,067,000 won, which is a cool Rs 64,000 (approximately). The currently available Samsung Galaxy S7 edge currently retails for Rs 56,900 in India. Technically, what you get for the extra Rs 7,000 is a new paint job that will get you plenty of attention. Let's hope that Samsung brings at least a few of them to India.
