Samsung Electronics and Sony Corp. have combined to form a joint flat-screen production line. This is expected to generate $2.3 billion in annual sales by 2008, producing 50-inch class TV panels.The agreement for a total sum of capital equaling $1.9 billion in expenditure for their joint liquid crystal display (LCD) plant, S-LCD Corp. was signed last week.
The production line, which uses the "eighth-generation" motherglass measuring approximately 2.2 by 2.5 meters, will begin production in the autumn of 2007, with a capacity of 50,000 panels a month.
