Apple went with the home button, while HTC placed it on the back, but it looks like Samsung may just one-up its rivals when it comes to a fingerprint scanner. According to the Korea Herald, the world’s leading smartphone maker will put the fingerprint scanner right on the screen to make it easier for users to use it. The sensors will reportedly be placed on the bottom left and right corners of the touchscreen in upcoming smartphones, which could include the Galaxy S5, widely expected to be announced this month at MWC. “The finger-scanning technology will be available on the bottom left and right sides, and not the entire display,” Korea Herald said. The sensors will only be employed on the edges to save cost, while later in the year, we can expect Samsung smartphones where the whole touchscreen could work as the fingerprint scanner, the report says. Korea Herald’s source said that the full-screen fingerprint scanner implementation does not work very well yet. Samsung is expected to use data collected by the sensor for health apps which are said to be the focus of Samsung’s upcoming software experience. Samsung’s fingerprint scanning plans have come in the wake of increased reliance on biometric methods to enhance security. We had heard that Samsung had earlier planned an iris-scanning feature for the same, but **ditched it for a fingerprint scanner** .
