**Samsung** is all set to
**launch its flagship** Galaxy Note 8 in India on 12 September. The device, however, is yet to receive an update to Android’s latest version Oreo. The update though could arrive soon as a recent
report by GSMAreana suggests that Samsung has already begun working on an update. **Galaxy S8** and
**S8 Plus** . The firmware numbers revealed were — G955FXXU1BQI1 and G950FXXU1BQI1. The Korean tech giant is yet to reveal a time-frame as to when an update should be expected, but the new information does clearly suggest that it is in the works. Samsung had last year adopted a different approach to rolling out
**Android 7.0 Nougat** to Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users through a beta-testing program for early adopters and could choose to do the same this year. Users will be anxious though as a majority of mid and lower end devices of 2016 by the company are yet to receive an Android 7.0 Nougat update. The company does have a history of being a little slow in pushing out updates given its use of a custom user interface but Galaxy S8, S8 Plus, as well as Galaxy Note 8 users, should be certain of an update soon. Rival OEMs like

**HTC** ,
**Sony** ,
**Huawei** and
**HMD** have already confirmed updates for their devices. Apart from being a major software update,
**Android 8.0 Oreo** brings across a number of key additions, in terms of features. These include a new picture-in-picture mode for video content, a wider colour gamut for image processing applications and an autofill framework for login and password credentials, among others.
