Owners of the original Samsung Galaxy Gear will now able to update their devices to the new Tizen-based Gear software, says Samsung. The original Gear ran Android OS, while the Gear 2 devices runs Samsung’s own Tizen OS. However, Samsung isn’t forcing the update on users, and its completely optional.   Galaxy Gear users can opt for the update available via Kies 3.0 software. On updating to Tizen OS, Galaxy Gear users will have access to twice the number of apps currently available  for the Gear.   The updated device will also receive the music enhancements found on the Gear 2, allowing users to store music on the Galaxy Gear and play back directly from the Gear through Bluetooth headphones, without the need to have a Galaxy phone on hand.   The Tizen OS software for Galaxy Gear also offers an improved interface, with more customisation options for fonts, wallpapers, home screen icons and so on. Samsung also claims to improve fitness and health functionalities such as tracking workouts in real-time, including walking, running, cycling, and hiking.   Users will also benefit from improved battery life with the update. Once users update the wearable to join the growing community of Tizen owners, the Galaxy Gear cannot be reverted to the original Android-based system.   Check out our Galaxy Gear and Gear 2 reviews.
