Samsung revisits flip phone era, launches Galaxy Golden dual-screen smartphone

It looks like Samsung is trying to get flip phones back in style this year. The company has now launched another Android flip phone, called the Samsung Galaxy Golden, which comes with twice the touchscreen capabilities, according to CNET.

The new phone comes with two 3.7-inch AMOLED screens. Apart from that, the smartphone comes with Android 4.2 running the show. Internally, the Galaxy Golden comes with a 1.7GHz dual-core processor. The smartphone also sports an 8 megapixel primary camera and a 1.9 megapixel front shooter.

Users who might want to pick this smartphone up, though, will likely find their desire dampened. The new offering will only see release in South Korea, according to the report. Be that as it may, the dual-screen flip phone definitely feels like a blast from the past, especially if your first phone was a hand-me-down Samsung or Motorola.

Samsung recently launched another Android flip phone, the Samsung SCH-W789 Hennessy, which is now available in China. The Hennessy comes with a 3.3-inch screen with a resolution ratio of 320 x 480 on the outside and a similar screen on the inside as well. Additionally, the Hennessy comes with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 5 megapixel camera. Rounding up the package is a traditional numeric keypad, only on the inside.

The flip phone era, which saw some great handsets in it’s heyday, like the Motorola Razr V3, died out soon after the touchscreen concept began picking up. With most companies now dishing out smartphones with humongous displays, it can be wondered if the flip phone era has passed its prime, despite what Samsung is trying to do.
