It looks like Samsung is limiting the number of options given to Galaxy Note 3 users who want to use the phablet on another continent. Android Authority has now reported that the company has region locked both the American and Errpoean models of the new device. This will basically allow the devices to only work within limited areas by default. The report states the European model will work for most in most parts of the region. The American version will be functional across North, Central and South America as well as the Caribbean.
The South Korean company has confirmed the news about region locking for the European model in a statement to GigaOm, but no confirmation has been given about the American model. While the phablet will still be able to connect to foreign networks, it won’t be able to use a foreign network’s SIM card. Users will instead have to shell out for international roaming charges to use wireless networks on another continent. According to a report by Ausdroid, the Note 3 units coming to the Asia Pacific region do not come with any mention of a region lock. There is, unfortunately, still no official news to verify this.

Samsung, when the Note 3 was launched, spoke a great deal about the wide support of LTE bands the phablet would come with. While introducing the event, JK Shin, head of Samsung Mobile Communications said, “Works with all types of LTE networks, no matter where you are.” While the support is still there, the fact that you cant use an international SIM while roaming makes it a bit difficult for users to fully take advantage of the this feature, without generating a huge bill by the end of their trip.
