Earlier this month, Japanese site Blog of Mobile had published the specs of a newly leaked Samsung smartphone, codenamed Hennessy, alongside a press image. It was the first time that we got a glimpse of what Samsung believably had in the works. Now, weeks later, the company’s Chinese site has officially announced this flip phone.
The smartphone is dual-SIM capable
Samsung Hennessy (W789) is essentially a flip phone with display on both sides, each measuring 3.3 inches with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. This smartphone runs the Android 4.1 OS and is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor. The outer screen is bordered by three capacitive buttons. All of this is powered by a 1500 mAh battery. Other specifications of this smartphone include dual-SIM capabilities and a 5MP shooter at the back. In addition to these the smartphone comes with a microSD slot, GPS, and options to connect over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. All said, there is no word yet on the availability and the pricing of the smartphone.
Details on the Hennessy had leaked on two occasions previously. The first leak had indicated that it is likely that this smartphone will be powered by a 1.2GHz processor and sport a 5MP shooter at the back. The Japanese site went as far as saying that the smartphone will run Android 4.1.2 and possibly move on to an updated OS later.
Runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
The Hennessy is certainly not Samsung’s first attempt at flip-phones. In 2011, the company had introduced another one of its dual-screen flip phones, the SCH-W999. This feature-rich handset ran Android 2.3 with Samsung’s TouchWiz and was powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor with an MSM8660 chipset. It featured dual 3.5-inch Super AMOLED displays and was unveiled in partnership with China Telecom. Apart from supporting GSM networks, it supported 3G through CDMA as well.
