Samsung may showcase 4.99-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display at CES 2013

Apple recently grabbed the title of the world’s most innovative company in a Booz and Company survey. However, it appears that Samsung would soon usurp the title. Samsung is pushing the limits of display technology. A Korean website,  Asiae, reports that Samsung is preparing to introduce a 4.99-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080p at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013 event early next year.

The handset will in all likelihood be mass produced in the first quarter of 2013. It will be used in Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S IV, expected to make its debut at the Mobile World Congress event scheduled to be held in Barcelona early next year.

Commenting on the display, an official at Samsung Display said, “It has more than 100 pixels per inch more than the Apple iPhone’s 326 ppi stretched beyond the limits of the human eye level.”

According to a recent report, for the third year in a row, Apple was named number one in a new annual survey of the top 10 most innovative companies. Almost 80 percent of the respondents in the 700-company survey by management consulting firm Booz and Company named Apple as one of the top three most innovative companies in the world.

“Apple’s innovation focuses on bringing together different parts of an ecosystem and tightly integrating them together with meticulous attention to detail” Reticle Research analyst Ross Rubin was quoted as saying by CNN

“They refine consumer capabilities in an approachable offering with broad appeal,” Rubin told Wired magazine, a leading tech publication, via e-mail.

Samsung, number four on Booz’s list, takes a different approach than Apple, making a point to incorporate the latest technologies into its products such as large OLED displays and NFC. However, from the looks of it, Samsung is flexing its innovative muscles and may soon top the charts as the world’s most innovative company and thereby move up from number four.

The Samsung Galaxy S IV is touted to be Samsung’s next flagship smartphone after the Galaxy S III. The latest rumour about the handset comes via SamMobile, which sourced the information from DDaily that the Galaxy S IV will feature the new Samsung Exynos 5450 processor. The S IV is expected to feature a lot of improvements over the S III, the most notable being the increase in the size of the display. The anonymous Samsung source has stated that the display size will be 5 inches, and that it is not certain if the screen will feature flexible display technology. The official went on to state that Samsung intends to implement the one year product schedule and the Galaxy S IV may be the first product to match this strategy. The handset will feature the rectangular styling with rounded corners found on the S III, but it is expected to have some external design changes.
