Samsung may have exclusive access to Snapdragon 820 chipset till April

While Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset is still a hot seller inside flagship smartphones (despite its hot-headed reputation), what’s even hotter news these days is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC. The chipset has been making waves in the rumour mill from the past six months, and is said to make an appearance in the Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship next year. But it seems that Samsung is the one who has supposedly gained early access to sell its Snapdragon 820-enabled smartphones before anyone else! The leaked information points out that Samsung will have exclusive rights to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset until April. If what the rumour reveals turns out to be true, Samsung could have a headstart for a couple of weeks compared to any manufacturer out there, giving its smartphone a sales momentum that should bring a lot of smiles on the faces of Samsung executives. This is because no other smartphone manufacturer will be able to roll out or release the same during that time. While the rumour may sound a bit unusual and we do suggest you take this news with a pinch of salt, the Samsung Galaxy S7 so far, is expected to appear in two variants. So Samsung may have an Exynos version of Galaxy S7 and a Snapdragon version of the same at launch, lending the rumour some credibility. Apart from chipsets, it is all down to the design, quality and software that a smartphone is judged for and so far, the leaks and rumours indicate that Samsung may not have anything special to offer but just improvements in the form of an “s” model. The current leaks point out that flagship Samsung Galaxy S7 is said to come in two models, include a retina scanner, pressure sensitive display , a USB Type-C port and improved low-light camera. Question is, will all of this be enough since the design of the smartphone is said to be very similar to its predecessors. Then again Samsung is also said to reduce the price of its Galaxy S7 at launch, so it really seems that the company is up to something.
