Samsung launches Tizen OS-based dual-SIM 'Z1' smartphone for Rs 5,700 in India

Samsung has finally unwrapped their much awaited Tizen OS and launched their first ever device ‘Samsung Z1’ at an event today at New Delhi.

Samsung launches Tizen OS-based dual-SIM 'Z1' smartphone for Rs 5,700 in India

Samsung has finally unwrapped their much awaited Tizen OS and launched their first ever device - the Samsung Z1 - at an event today at New Delhi. The phone is priced at a mere Rs 5,700. Samsung has roped in Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi as their brand ambassador.

“The smartphone market in India is rapidly evolving, with many consumers using their device as their screen of choice for content including videos, television programs and video games, as well as a range of apps,” said Mr. Hyun Chil Hong, President and CEO, Samsung India Electronics, “We have customized the Samsung Z1 to meet these unique, entertainment-focused needs of local Indian consumers for a personal and reliable mobile experience."

​The smartphone sports a 4-inch WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) PLS screen. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and is paired with 768 MB RAM. The Z1 will run on Tizen OS v2.3.

On the camera front, the smartphone has a 3.1 MP primary camera along with a front-facing VGA camera. It has an internal storage of 4GB which can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card. The Z1 has a 1,500 mAh battery. The company claims it will offer 8 hours of talk-time. The device weighs a mere 112 grams and measures 120.4x63.2x9.7mm. In terms of connectivity, it offers a dual SIM 2G/3G slot, it has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, USB 2.0 and GPS. In additional features, the smartphone also has Ultra Power Saving Mode, Private Mode, Send help Message and Security. The Z1 also supports 14 regional languages from India. The Samsung Z1 will be available in Black, White, and Wine Red colour variants. Tizen is Samsung and Intel’s co-developed operating system which aims to reduce dependency on Google’s Android platform. With this smartphone, Samsung is looking to capture the sub-10K smartphone market.
