Samsung India has announced a new tablet for government and enterprises in India called the Galaxy Tab Iris. The tablet has been designed for use in the field for logging iris scans for use in biometric identification like in the case of the government’s Aadhaar card program. The Galaxy Tab Iris will be priced at Rs 13,499 and will be offered to businesses for use in banking, eGovernance services like passport, taxation, healthcare and even education. 
The tablet has been designed as an easy-to-use device with Aadhaar-compliant and STQC-certified iris recognition technology. More importantly, the tablet is also another innovation that comes under Samsung’s ‘Make for India’ campaign.  Coming to the hardware specifications of this humble tablet, you get a 7.0-inch WSVGA (1024x600 pixels) capacitive touchscreen display. Inside, there is a 1.2GHz quad-core chipset with 1.5GB RAM (LPDDR3) and 8GB of internal storage that is expandable up to 200GB via a microSD card slot.  The tablet packs in a 5MP rear camera and an Iris camera along with a subsystem next to it. It packs in the usual connectivity options including 2G/3G radios, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n (2.4GHz), Bluetooth v4.1 and USB 2.0 port for charging and data transfers.  The Samsung Tab Iris is powered by a 3,600mAh battery, weighs in at 327 grams and runs Android 5.0 Lollipop.
