Samsung launches Galaxy Note 510 in India for Rs 30,990

Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Note 510 tablet in India. Surprisingly, the launch announcement comes after the tablet had been listed for sale on the company’s e-store and certain other online retailers since earlier this week. But with the official announcement, the Note 510 will be hitting stores soon. The tablet is priced at Rs 30,900.

This tablet has an 8-inch TFT LCD with a not-so-spectacular 1280 x 800 pixel display. Thankfully, it won’t be lacking in terms of performance as it is powered by an Exynos 4 Quad processor clocked at 1.6GHz and has 2GB of RAM. The Note 510 runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, but with Samsung’s TouchWiz/Nature UX on top.

The design follows the aesthetics of most of Samsung’s recent smartphones, with glossy plastic covering the tablet and a chrome trim running around the edges. At 338 g, the Note 510 is in the same ballpark as the iPad mini; Samsung claims users won’t feel the strain on their wrists even when using it one-handed. The tablet’s back is non-removable and covers a 4600 mAh battery. The microSD and micro-SIM slots are located on the left edge under the flaps. The micro-SIM slot can be used for more than just 3G connectivity as the tablet is capable of making voice calls.

On the back is a 5 megapixel autofocus camera that’s capable of 1080p video recording. The front has a 1.3 megapixel camera, which should be enough for voice calls. Samsung has partnered with Peel to bring the Smart Remote app to the Note 510, which may be an attempt to get a piece of the home entertainment market. The tablet has an infrared blaster on the right edge and Samsung has baked in a visual programming guide with remote control functions.

Here is a quick look at the key specs of the Note 510:

  • 8-inch TFT LCD with a 1280 x 800 resolution and a pixel density of 189 ppi
  • HSPA, Class 12 GPRS/EDGE
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP
  • Micro USB 2.0 with MHL-support and USB Host
  • A-GPS support and GLONASS
  • 5 megapixel primary camera; 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera
