Samsung is the largest SSD manufacturer in the world

Samsung was and is still the leader in the SSD market with a total shipment of 30.77 million units in Q1 2016

Samsung is the largest SSD manufacturer in the world

The traditional hard disks are being replaced with more secure and faster SSD storage. While a majority of consumers still utilise a hard disk, the future of digital storage for the common user is going to be an SSD. According to latest report by storage market tracking company TrendFocus, Samsung was and is still the leader in the SSD market. The first quarter of 2016 saw a total shipment of 30.77 million SSDs which is a significant increase of 32 percent from the same period last year.

Samsung still controls over 40 percent of the SSD market and its unit shipments increased from 9.42 million in Q1 2015 to 12.93 million in Q1 2016. Samsung supplies SSDs to PC makers like Apple, HP and Lenovo as well as directly to the consumers.The second largest supplier of in Q1 2016 was SanDisk, which shipped 3.94 million drives and had a 12.8 percent market share. In Q1 the company sold 1.2 million SSDs, and used to have market share of only 3.9 percent. Surprisingly the next in line was Lite-On, which sells drives under Plextor and Lite-On brands. The company increased shipments of its SSDs from 1.39 million units in Q1 2015 to 3.51 million units in Q1 2016 which is a massive 152 percent year-over-year. Currently the company has 11.4 percent market share of the global SSD shipments. Kingston, which has been the leader in supplying of DRAM modules for PCs, is the fourth largest maker of SSDs. The past 12 months have been rough for the company, while its unit sales of SSDs increased by 14 percent year over year, its market share dropped from 10.8 percent in Q1 2015 to 9.3 percent in Q1 2016.
