Just a day after we heard of Nokia’s demo of two foldable displays , a report has come out stating that Samsung may allegedly launch a foldable tablet by early 2015.
The Korean report builds up on the screen shots of a Samsung IP which showcases a smartphone with a tri-fold flexible display. Samsung is allegedly working on an 8 to 9-inch tablet which can be folded in twice, reaching a form factor which resembles a smartphone. From the picture, the device looks bulky when folded. It is not clear if the device will have three separate displays that work together when unfolded.
Nothing is confirmed naturally, but there are rumours that a prototype of such a device is already in existence. Samsung is allegedly looking at an early 2015 release.
There are still concerns regarding how Android will work with the foldable display in both folded and unfolded orientations. Samsung will most likely have to custom build some apps from the ground up if it indeed has three separate displays, to make use of the folding design.
Samsung is not new to the curved or flexible display space. It has already released the Galaxy Round, its curved phone and is heavily invested in Curved OLED TVs. Samsung has also showed off its Youm flexible display and in the past we have heard of its flexible display production plans as well. Whether this tri-fold tablet will indeed be a reality, only time will tell.
