Samsung Galaxy S8 availability: Here’s how and when you can get your hands on the device

Samsung launched the Galaxy S8 on 29 March. The new phone features a stunning new design, the latest and greatest in hardware and some software tweaks. This is the first, true flagship smartphone to be launched this year and everyone is understandably excited. Now that we know everything about the device, the bigger question is: When can we get our hands on it? Well, if you’re in the US, the device will be available form 21 April onwards. Launch dates for the rest of the world, particularly in India, are unknown. If you’re in the US, you can pre-order the device today. Bookings are already open and the device will be delivered by 21 April. If you’re in India, however, you can’t yet pre-order the device. In fact, the registration page for pre-ordering doesn’t seem to exist yet. In the US, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ will sell for between $720 and $850 respectively. The smaller Galaxy S8 will sell for around $720-750 and the larger one will sell for around $820-850. Converted, this means that the devices are selling for around Rs 49,000 for the smaller version and around Rs 55,000 for the larger version. This is in the same ballpark as the iPhone 7 Plus pricing in the US. Considering that the smaller S8 offers a larger screen, more RAM and more storage than the base model iPhone 7 Plus, this is actually a good thing. Expect India prices to be in the same range as well. Do note that the version sold in India will likely be powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 9 8895 SoC rather than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip that powers the device in western markets. Last year, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge models were announced at MWC 2016 in late February and hit US shores by 11 March. The device was launched in India 4 days later. This year’s launch was so heavily delayed because of Samsung’s trouble with the Note 7 and production issues with the 10 nm process for the manufacture of the SoC that powers the device. Keep an eye on this page for more information on availability and pricing.  The pre-order link should be available once the device is officially announced in India. In the meantime, do follow us on Twitter and Facebook for more information on the Galaxy S8.
