Samsung Galaxy S7 may be cheaper than the Galaxy S6: Report

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy smartphone, the Galaxy S7 might be cheaper than the Galaxy S6, which carries an exorbitant price tag. According to a report by The Times of India, Pan Jiutang, a China-based analyst who specializes in China’s electronics supply chain, has stated that the company is considering to price the Galaxy S7, approximately 10 percent lower at launch than the Galaxy S6. With this move, Samsung could offer the company’s best smartphone of 2016, at a lesser price, compared to handset makers such as Apple, HTC, Sony etc. Currently, Samsung is facing pressure from Chinese companies such as Xiaomi, Lenovo and others as they are offering a great set of specifications at a cheaper price. However, the company recently went on to state that it has attained a 50 percent share in the Indian premium phone market. According to a report by Economic Times, Manu Sharma, Director of Product Marketing for Samsung India, said that the company has seen a ‘positive momentum’ over the last one year on the back of new launches such as the S6 edge and the Note5 devices. He stated, “As per numbers provided by market research firm GfK, our market share in the Rs 30,000 and above category is 51 percent in value terms at the end of the September this year. This was about 36% till about a year ago.”
