Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users start receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat update

Those on the beta channel of updates for Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have started receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat update. Those on the release channel, regular users, are supposed to get the update from 17 January onwards. It’s not known if their schedule will also be pushed up and if they can enjoy the update a few days early. Sam Mobile thinks the update will arrive sooner for the release channel, but offers no evidence to support this. Samsung is one of the first companies to push Android 7.0 to its devices, if only its flagship devices, but it’s a start. To be clear, Samsung is only pushing Android 7.0 for now, but the latest version of Android is 7.1.1, though Samsung did claim that the public release would start with Android 7.1.1 and not 7.0. Android 7 Nougat is currently available on all Nexus devices from the 5X onwards, the Nexus 9 and of course, the Pixel. A handful of other phones, such as the LG V20 and the Motorola Moto Z have received the Nougat update. Other than the expected Android Nougat features, Samsung will be including some customisation of its own, notably “edge panels” for the Galaxy S7 Edge. These panels can offer quick snapshots of information, easy access to certain settings, and more. Judging by the beta, you can download and keep the panels you like.
