Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge to get Android 7.1 Nougat updates instead of 7.0

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge owners who have been waiting for their respective Android 7.0 Nougat updates to arrive, may need to wait a bit more. However, there’s good news and  according to an XDA user, Samsung will be updating these handsets directly to Android 7.1 Nougat instead of the 7.0. Even though Samsung Galaxy S7 beta testers are currently dealing with Android 7.0 on their devices. A new development on the same front now points out that they will be directly upgraded to version 7.1.1 and all the goodies that come with it. Of course, Samsung is expected to wrap the same update up with the latest version of its TouchWiz UI so there’s no escaping that. ![Samsung Galaxy S7 S7 edge Android 7.1.1 Nougat update](http://tech.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Samsung-Galaxy-S7-S7-edge-Android-7.1.1-Nougat-update.jpg) This makes a bit of sense because Android smartphone owners have been waiting way too long for their Android Nougat updates this year. LG is on the forefront with the LG G5 being the first handset to receive its Nougat update, next up was Sony who recently upgraded its Xperia XZ and Xperia Z5 smartphones along with HTC. What is important to note here is that all of these handsets are running Android 7.0. Hopefully with the beta program, Samsung has squished out a majority of the bugs, else that long wait along with a bug ridden update will annoy S7 customers. More importantly, unlike every other year, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge is all that Samsung has as a flagship device thanks to the mishaps with the Galaxy Note 7 phablet this year. Google recently began pushing out its Android 7.1.1 update for Nexus devices. While they did pack in some new stuff for the recent Nexus devices, the much-awaited Google Assistant integration was nowhere to be found. Indeed, this means that everyone else (flagship or not) apart from the Pixel user will get access to Assistant only via the Google Allo.
