Samsung Galaxy S6 may feature 4k display, 4GB RAM and 20 MP camera: report

The dust hasn't even settled on the Note 4 and there is already talk of the Galaxy S6 -- Samsung's next flagship phone -- being readied for a release in around six months time.

One remembers how well the Samsung Galaxy S3 struck a chord with the crowd. The dramatic launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 saw more dance moves than of the phone itself and even though the phone wasn't a crowd favourite like the S3 but it was a fair update overall. The Samsung Galaxy S5, however, failed to be the tonic that the company needed to pick up it's sagging sales.

The HTC One M8, LG G3 or even the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 seem to be much better buys. In fact, the S5 price has already dropped into the mid-thirties and that is a clear sign of the company looking to get rid of inventory while it can. That and the dropping market share in countries like China and India place Samsung in a precarious position.

So at this point, they desperately need a winner. Can the Samsung Galaxy S6 be that?

An initial specs list for S6 reveals that the phone may have a 5.3 inch display and will have a 4K display which translates into 3840x2160 pixels with over 375 ppi density on an AMOLED screen. The 2K display on the LG G3 is a treat so one can only imagine how good a 4K display will be. To power the phone, we may have a Qualcomm Snapdrgon 810 and 4GB RAM.

Giving some solid competition to Sony, the Galaxy S6 could have a 20 MP camera and an iris scanner. As the S5 had a 16MP camera, we expect Samsung to push it up a notch. It would nice if it will be capable of 4K video as well.

In terms of software, we do not think it is going sport their own Tizen OS. They will most probably go with the Android 5.0 Lollipop. Google's material design is sure to spice up this phone even more.

The report also states that it will be available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants and will have a 4000mAH lithium ion battery to power it up. In terms of specs, one really can't ask for more. But as we've seen in the past, that's not all that goes into making a good phone.

For the moment, there is no news on the price but that will a big decision for Samsung to make.
