Samsung may be planning to unveil the Galaxy S5 early next year, possibly as soon as January. While it is speculated that the handset might go on sale on February, we have now gotten our hands on a few new details of what might be coming with the device, thanks to slides seen from Samsung Display CEO Kinam Kim’s presentation at the company’s recently held Analyst Day.

According to slide 16 and slide 18, Samsung plans to introduce AMOLED display-bearing devices with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels and a pixel density of 560ppi by 2014. The presentation also shows that the company plans to make such displays with plastic substrate, similar to what is seen on the Galaxy Round. Mass production of these plastic substrate panels may take some time, though, due to production constraints. This was also seen in the Round, which is being rolled out with limited numbers, and may not be seen in the Indian market.

While there is no word from Samsung about which new devices these displays will come with, the 2014 dateline suggests that the S5 may come with a 560ppi AMOLED-bearing screen when it launches next year. The numbers are amazing, given that the resolution will amount to the user having 3.7 million pixels on a small phone screen.

Earlier reports about the S5 had suggested that Samsung may be planning to include a 64-bit mobile processor, which is rumoured to go into production before the end of this year. The chip will presumably be octa-core, much like the Exynos 5 Octa. Other expected features include a 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation and 4GB of RAM, topping the Galaxy Note 3, which comes with 3GB of RAM.

The presentation also detailed Samsung’s plans for bendable, foldable and even stretchable displays that can be applied to a variety of products like wearable devices, cars or even fashion accessories. The company, at the Analyst Day, had said that it planned to ship over 100 million Galaxy S and Galaxy Note devices by the end of the year.
