We had earlier reported a video that was leaked showcasing the ultra rugged Samsung Galaxy S5 Active. AT&T has now launched the S5 Active and it is officially on sale.
The Active variant only adds an elaborate shock resistant rugged body to Samsung’s flagship smartphone, which is already quite brilliant. The phone has more or less the same specifications as the S5, but doesn't feature the fingerprint scanner, which Samsung introduced as a response to Apple's TouchID.
The Active sports the same 5.1 inch 1080p Super AMOLED 1080p display, a 2.5Ghz quad-core processor, a 16MP rear camera with a heart monitor, resting below it. The guys at Samsung have added an extra “convenience key” which allows the user to access a new Activity Zone, which shows you data related to your workout, or outdoor activities.
The stronger casing comes in three different colours. ‘Camo green’ makes it look like some serious military equipment, and adds a hitherto unseen colour option to a smartphone. It looks poles apart from the other colour options of titanium grey and ruby red.
Samsung has been rolling out variants of its flagship for a couple of years now, though there were a few doubts about the S5 Active being real, seeing as the S5 is already water-resistant. AT&T has priced the S5 Active at $199.99 with a two-year contract and one can also avail a $50 discount on buying the Samsung Gear Fit along with the Active.
