Looks like Samsung’s surprise for the IFA stage has been ruined. We knew that the Galaxy Note 4 was not going to be the only device coming tonight, but we had expected the Gear VR headset to be featured along side the phablet. Instead it looks like Samsung will be unveiling a bent-display toting Galaxy Note Edge. In a
picture published by Android Police
, Samsung’s phablet duo can be seen posing with the Note 4 in shimmering white, while the Note Edge cutting a reticent figure next to it. It certainly looks distinct and you are not likely to mistake the Note Edge for any other phone. [caption id=“attachment_232151” align=“alignnone” width=“640”]
Note Edge with the distinctive display[/caption] In the past, we have seen glimpses of Samsung’s bent display devices including renders for patent applications as well as working prototypes.
The Note Edge will have a Yuom display
, which Samsung unveiled last year at CES but has yet to employ in any final device. Having launched the Samsung Galaxy Round in extremely limited capacity, we could say that the Note Edge will be the first Samsung phone with a flexible display to get a worldwide reception. What the picture doesn’t show is whether the display will only be bent on the right hand side or whether Samsung has kept things symmetrical. It looks like the side will be used to display notification text and offer quick access to some apps. It’s not yet clear whether it can be used for anything more than that. Sitting next to the Note 4, the display of the devices looks to be of the same size,
so we can expect a 5.7-inch display
or thereabout for the Edge, but anything else would be pure conjecture.
