Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will have 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen

The folks over at GSMArena have got an inside tip on Samsung’s upcoming Note 2 and according to their source, the phone will indeed sport a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display. By the sound of it, it still seems like Samsung is sticking to the Pen-tile matrix display instead of the RGB variant used in the S II. Apart from the screen size, the design is said to be heavily inspired from the Galaxy S III so we can expect a similar form factor with heavily rounded edges and pebble like design. The Note 2’s launch date also seems to have been pushed forward to September instead of the previously rumoured October time frame. We don’t have any more details on the handset but users should expect an improved 8MP BSI sensor, one of the new Exynos SoCs (dual or quad is unknown as of now) and of course Ice Cream Sandwich. It would be really great if Samsung can launch the phone with Jelly Bean, although that seems a little unlikely.

It’s a larger display but hopeful not a larger phone - Mock up

We heard similar rumours about the Note 2 earlier this month from Ubuntulife.com, who claimed that the next version would have a larger 5.5-inch display and a pixel density of around 360ppi.  It was also rumoured to feature a faster CPU and more memory, which make sense. That would be quite a step up from the current model. If the Note 2 is indeed modelled around the S III then there is a good chance that the phone will get some or all of the ‘S’ features like S Beam, Smart Stay eye tracking, Smart Voice, etc. Just a couple of days back, Samsung Mobile Arabia let the Note 2 out of the bag via Twitter. The tweet asked the users which phone they were most looking forward to and among the Galaxy Beam and Galaxy Tab 2, they also mentioned the Note 2. Now Samsung Mobile Arabia isn’t the official Twitter channel for Samsung but it’s pretty clear now that they were on the right track.

Here’s what we expect the Note 2 to feature

  • 5.5-inch Super AMOELD touchscreen with a 1680 × 1050
  • 4G LTE, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, NFC
  • GPS possibly with GLNONASS and a-GPS support
  • Bluetooth possible v4.0 with USB and hopefully USB-on-the-go
  • 8/12 megapixel AF/Touchfocus camera with full HD video recording and playback
  • A front facing camera for video calls and chats
  • Possibly a 64GB edition, along with 16GB and 32GB versions all with expandable support
  • MHL for AV out
