Update: Samsung has begun sending out invites to journalists for its Galaxy S5 Zoom aka 'Galaxy K' event to be held in Singapore on April 29, 2014. Though the invite doesn't mention the camera-centric Zoom, it reads, “Kapture the moment" and comes imprinted with a large 'K' hinting at the Galaxy K.
The K Zoom was earlier rumoured to launch in the first week of April, but after a no-show, it has now popped its head at the FCC. According to PhoneArena, FCC has approved the Galaxy S5 Zoom, which will go by the model number SM-C115. According to the report, the FCC document confirms that the SM-C115 will come with support for NFC and LTE connectivity. It mentions LTE band 2 and LTE band 5 that are used in the US.
If the previous rumours are to be believed, then the S5 variant would come with a sleeker body and without a protruding lens, unlike its bulkier predecessor. However, it would still come with support for 10x zoom. Samsung is likely to upgrade the sensor from 16MP seen last year to 20MP CMOS sensor for the S5 zoom. The camera would come with features like Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), Xenon Flash and 10x optical zoom.
Recently leaked benchmark tests had suggested a 4.8 inch Super AMOLED HD display with 1280×720 pixel resolution for the S5 Zoom. It will likely be powered by a 6-core Samsung Exynos 5 Hexa (5260) processor that is made up of two 1.7GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores.
Some other leaked specs include a quad-core ARM Mali-T624 GPU, 2GB RAM, microSD card slot and 2.1MP front-facing camera. It is expected to run Android v4.4.2 (KitKat) with a layer of TouchWiz skin.
