Samsung Galaxy Camera gets its first update with new shooting modes

Two months after the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Camera, the Korean giant is releasing an update for the smart camera packing Android 4.1.2 and a few handy features with it. In the first major update post its launch, the camera will see some smart shooting modes and will look to improve the camera’s performance.

SamMobile has already uploaded a firmware that can be flashed on to your device using the ODIN utility. The procedure is a risky one and it is recommended you download the official over the air release. There have not been reports of any camera receiving this update yet, but it looks like it could arrive over the course of the next few days or weeks.

New update!

The most notable change in the new firmware is that Samsung has added four new options under the ‘smart’ shooting mode:

  • Dawn - Take pictures that emphasise the dawn sky by making the blue more intense.
  • Snow - Take pictures that emphasise the brightness of snow by making the white more intense.
  • Food - Take pictures that emphasise the vivid colours of food.
  • Party/Indoor - Take pictures of parties or other indoor activities without blurring.

A new option that allows the Galaxy Camera to be used with Samsung’s Remote Viewfinder app on another device has also been added. This feature can be found under Settings and Share in the Galaxy Camera’s menu.

Android Central reports that the Galaxy Camera has also lost the input lag it initially displayed with this update. The new firmware has made a considerable difference to the touch controls of the camera.

Samsung Galaxy Camera was officially launched in India in November 2013 with out of the box Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and wireless network connectivity. The smart camera is said to be ideal for those who wish to shoot, edit, and share high quality photographs and videos easily and spontaneously from anywhere, at any time.

Samsung Galaxy Camera features a 21x zoom lens that has a focal length of 23mm at the widest end, and a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor. The Galaxy Camera also features a large display, which is a 4.8-inch HD Super Clear LCD screen. Wireless connectivity enables the device to load applications for photo-editing, sharing, and more.

The Galaxy Camera includes a set of 35 photo editing features through the ‘Photo Wizard’, allowing users to make professional quality edits on the go. The camera has a quad-core processor, giving access to a feature such as ‘Auto Face Calibration’ so that edits can be made. The ‘Movie Wizard’ also allows users to create and edit videos from the touchscreen.

The Galaxy Camera also features the ‘Smart Content Manager’, an on-device organisation tool, which creates folders, tags faces, and even suggests pictures to delete when they do not come out as desired. The camera’s ‘Auto Cloud Backup’ feature automatically saves photos into the cloud via Samsung’s AllShare as soon as they are taken. The Galaxy Camera also enables users to share photos at the same time as they shoot them with ‘Share Shot’.
